James T. Weiner has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years and currently practices in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Mr. Weiner has represented organizations of various sizes from Fortune 100 corporations to “mom-and-pop” operations, individuals, and non-profit corporations in an extensive variety of issues involving real property, land protection, landlord-tenant law, construction law, environmental law, energy law, contracts, technology protection, corporate issues, business, litigation, probate, and estate planning.

Corporate, Business, Real Property and Construction Issues

Mr. Weiner’s background in corporate, construction and property law include: the formation of corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies; profit and non-profit corporate issues; negotiation and development of complex contracts, confidentiality agreements; civil litigation; bankruptcy; condemnation; mineral rights; trademark issues; construction issues including construction liens, warranties, and licensing; residential and commercial real estate transactions; condominium law, residential and commercial leases; liquor licenses; zoning and riparian issues.

Environmental

Mr. Weiner’s background in environmental issues include: compliance with a wide range of environmental laws; environmental litigation; the sale and transfer of environmentally contaminated properties; cleanup of contaminated sites; hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal and permitting in various states and Canada; permitting of waste treatment and air pollution control systems; waste minimization; industrial process engineering; auditing the environmental compliance of industry; EPCRA and Community Right-to-Know reporting;; the handling, storage and transportation of hazardous materials; Employee Right-To-Know training and OSHA compliance.

Estates and Probate

Mr. Weiner has significant experience with estate planning and probate law. He has experience with complex estate planning projects including large estates, complex estates, special needs trusts for the protection of individuals with disabilities.

Conservation and Charitable Activities

Mr. Weiner has been active with the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy, a nonprofit corporation, IRS 501(C)(3) charitable organization and a qualified conservation organization under Michigan law (SMLC) since 2004. He is a board member, legal counsel and past President and Secretary. He has been instrumental in the preservation and protection of thousands of acres of natural lands throughout Southeast Michigan including fee acquisitions and conservation easements. He has overseen multiple wetland preservation and restoration projects for SMLC.

Education

Mr. Weiner received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with honors from Wayne State University in 1980, a Masters in Business Administration (Finance and International Business) from the University of Michigan in 1986, and a Juris Doctor Cum Laude from the University of Detroit in 1991. Mr. Weiner has taught environmental law at Wayne State University and construction law at Macomb Community College as an adjunct professor for both institutions.

Personal

Mr. Weiner has been a member of the Sunrise Networking Group since November of 2002 – almost since it began. He is currently a member of the Farmington Hills breakfast group and active in both its bowling and bocce leagues. He is an avid hiker.
